Tourism group reveals 10 best things to do in Hereford


HEREFORDSHIRE is well known for its lush countryside, rolling hills and fragrant orchards, but, centrally located in the county, the beautiful Saxon town of Hereford is teeming with culture, cuisine and curiosity.

That’s why Eat Sleep Live Herefordshire, the county’s leading destination marketing organization, has created a list of the 12 best things to do in Hereford City right now, from visiting museums to spectacular riverside walks.

Here are the group’s suggestions.

Walking tour

One of the best ways to truly experience the city’s past and present is on a fascinating walking tour, led by local experts from the Guild of Guides. After whetting your appetite on foot, stop for a delicious afternoon tea at Castle House and relax in the beautiful terraced garden, designed by Capability Brown, overlooking the waters of the castle’s original swimming pool .


Hereford offers a wealth of history and culture packed into its museums. Marvel at the remarkable 17th-century architecture of the Black and White House Museum, which features rare paintings and period pieces depicting life in the Jacobean era, as well as hands-on activities for children.

Discover the huge traditional Hereford cider-making industry at the Cider Museum located on the site of the original Bulmer factory, or learn about the history of drinking water at the exciting Waterworks Museum, home to an acclaimed collection of working steam pumps and a water park. Hereford Town Hall’s Heritage Suite is home to the city’s civic treasures, housing historic silverware and incredible ancient charters, as well as many other interesting artifacts.

Castle Green and King George V Playgrounds

Enjoy a scenic walk through Castle Green (the original bovy of Hereford Castle) and along the banks of the River Wye, admiring the extraordinary iron lacework of Victoria Bridge and stop for a picnic in the playgrounds and King George V.

Hereford Cathedral, Mappa Mundi and Chained Library

A visit to Hereford wouldn’t be complete without an experience in the magnificent cathedral.
